There is not that many exterior designers out there, it is easier to build a clientele. To stay happy, the best thing a designer can do for themselves is to cater to their own interests. Do what you like and see if that can be applied to a profession. It is good to be flexible like a generalist, but it is noticeable to be a specialist within a field. People pay for expertise. Persistence is key.
